WHAT/WHO IS SSIC?

Join us in our mission to build trails and create unique events that showcase Steuben County's natural beauty, while creating a sustainable local economy and culture based in cycling.

ABOUT US

We are a collective of local cycling and trail building enthusiasts who have come together with the mission to make Steuben County a world class destination for mountain biking and gravel grinding.   We grew up riding bikes and exploring the hills and hollows of the region, and naturally gravitated together over the years at rides and events.  As we explored other areas, we came to realize that our home, Steuben County, has massive untapped potential.  From then on, we have made it our mission to transform our home into a haven for cycling in upstate New York and beyond.  Our plan is to build trails and create unique events that showcase the area’s natural beauty, while creating a sustainable local economy and culture based on cycling.

We work closely with area landowners and governments to build and maintain sustainable trail systems for locals and tourists alike to enjoy.  Our efforts at Mossy Bank park in Bath, New York, have transformed the relationship with the community and cycling.  When we first approached the village of Bath, mountain biking was illegal and there were no single track trails in the park.  Over time and lots of volunteer hours, we convinced the Village and park board to open up to cycling and let us build a small loop trail in the heart of the park.  That little trail quickly became popular and the potential was realized by the park board. From there, we slowly built trust and more trails over the years and now Mossy Bank park has miles of multi-use single track that draws in riders from all over the region!  Our goal moving forward is to build upon the momentum of Mossy Bank and to expand trail riding opportunities throughout Steuben County.

We feel strongly that creating great events and providing trails will help create more outdoor recreation opportunities within Steuben County to make it a better place to live, do business, and visit. Our goal is to partner with local businesses and governments to create engaging events to highlight Steuben County’s trails, to build up the local cycling community, and to expose local businesses to new customers and markets.  We started out in 2019 with the “Hills On Fire XC Enduro” and will gradually add in more mountain bike and gravel events. Our mission is to make Steuben County a world class destination for mountain biking and gravel grinding.
